Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program
The San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency Program with home institution at St. Mary’s Hospital offers three categorical orthopaedic surgery residency positions each year with a total of 15 residents participating in our program annually (three residents per PGY-1 through PGY-5). Participating institutions include Highland Hospital, Kaiser-Oakland and the Shrines Hospital in Sacramento, CA. Resident hands-on experience is intertwined with our core curriculum, which serves as the foundation for the academic side of the program.
SFORP emphasizes the exploration of didactic learning through academic preparation and research. This includes a series of lectures and conferences covering topics in:
Anatomy and surgical cadaver dissection
Fractures related to basic science, foot and ankle, adult arthroplasty, sports, bio-mechanical, pediatrics, oncology, hand, spine, trauma and rehab
Casting and splinting
During the residency of five years, residents will learn all aspects of orthopedic surgery and musculoskeletal medicine, including:
Joints
Trauma
Spine
Foot and ankle
Sports
Pediatrics
Hand
Tumor
General orthopedics
